Meet BBG Community Member Katie
I love hearing directly from the BBG Community, and how you make time for exercise and fit training into your lives — but I know it’s not always easy!
There can be so many obstacles to overcome in any fitness journey. I’ve heard from lots of you that becoming a mother can be an experience that is totally overwhelming, physically and emotionally — I definitely felt that way too after having Arna.
What inspires me about BBG Mum Katie (@confidentiallykatie on Instagram) is how she faced those feelings and decided to make a commitment to herself and start working out. This decision to focus on her health has led to so many positive changes in her life — meet Katie.
‘BBG has revolutionised the way I work out’
Katie: So, my name is Katie Watkins and I am from Toronto, Ontario, in Canada. And I have three children, Theodore, Josephine, and then have Daphne who is nine months old.
Me: What’s the biggest personal barrier you’ve faced in your life?
Katie: It's when my second was born, and she was eight weeks old. And I just felt, like, low about myself and really physically incapable. That was when I just decided to take control of it. And I decided that fitness was the way forward for me. Like, I had to do it. If I didn't do it, no one was going to do it for me. And no one was going to grab my hand and sort of lead me down a path, I had to do it myself. So, I didn't realise what a massive impact it would have on me mentally as well. And just like completely shifted my confidence levels and energy.
Me: The fact that you work, you've got three kids, you get all their stuff organised, you manage to work out as well — it's incredible.
Katie: A lot of people will say to me: “How do you work out as a mom?” And my response is always, “I work out because I'm a mom.” Literally, motherhood is what propelled me into fitness.
Me: How has BBG impacted your life?
Katie: BBG has like revolutionised the way I work out because it's made it a part of my life. Like it's a lifestyle change — very much so for me — it's something that I will do every day. It gives you a sense of pride and a sense of accomplishment for your day. Especially as a mom, when so much of you is just giving, giving, giving, to know that you've done something for yourself is huge.
Me: What did you think of the BBQ Zero Equipment workout?
Katie: It made me feel really great, really empowered, absolutely drenched by it. Like I'm not even kidding. Just do it with your own body, in your own space. Not have to worry about showing up with anything but yourself. And it's really effective. All I needed was me, to show up and complete this workout. That's all I needed and I've done it. I pushed through when it was really hard.
Me: What advice would you give to women starting their fitness journey?
Katie: Everyone starts at zero. Just get started and see what you can do. Take it slow and easy. If you show up every day for yourself, you will see progress physically, mentally, it will start building up that confidence, and you won't be scared anymore, approaching it.
Exercise can completely change the way you feel
In my early days as a personal trainer, I noticed that women became so much more confident after consistently training.
That’s what motivated me to develop my BBG programs, because I had seen exercise have a really positive impact on women’s lives, and I wanted to share it with as many women as possible.
It makes me so happy to know that Katie feels more empowered and has greater levels of energy as she continues to train, and I love that she was up for the challenge of BBG Zero Equipment workout. It’s a program you can do anywhere, anytime — so what are you waiting for?
