Meet BBG Community Member Julie
BBG Community member Julie (she’s @julieanakim on Instagram) has been on an AMAZING journey with my BBG program.
Five years ago, Julie was in a place where she didn't feel love or appreciation for her body. She decided it was time to make a change and create a healthier and happier life for herself, and says that once she found my program it changed EVERYTHING for her!
I am SO proud of Julie and all that she has achieved. Her dedication to her workouts is really inspiring and she has made incredible progress, both physically and in terms of her mindset. If you’ve seen her workout videos on Instagram, you’ll know she is a BOSS at the gym — and if you haven’t seen them yet, meet Julie!
‘I started working out with the BBG Community and they've become some of my best friends’
Julie: My name is Julie. I'm 30 years old. I live in Southern California. I live with my dad and grandfather. I kind of take care of them, help them out. I've been doing that for a couple of years. And on the weekends I am with my boyfriend.
Me: What barriers have you pushed through in your life?
Julie: I started working out five years ago, and I was really unhealthy. I was the biggest I had ever been, almost 300 pounds, and I'm only five feet. So, it was really, really unhealthy. My doctors were really concerned. I had high blood pressure, I had type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, everything. And I just, even knowing that I didn't know how to change and I almost didn't want to, I was so used to my lifestyle. Really lost the sense of myself and I lost the love of myself. And I knew that I needed to do something.
Me: What did your fitness journey look like?
Julie: I signed up with a personal trainer. Committed for a year. And I was like: “Let's do this”. Even though it's just two or three times a week, it made a huge difference to just actually start and commit to something. And then I found BBG just three months into my journey, and that was the biggest change for me. I started working out with people in the BBG Community every single week. We would meet at the gym, and they've become some of my best friends, and it's been an incredible journey.
Me: What did you think of the BBG Zero Equipment workout?
Julie: It's actually really, really tough, and it's tough in a good way. It really does feel like a really intense bootcamp, where you're constantly going and moving and jumping, and I really enjoyed it. It was definitely a little bit harder than what I'm used to, but afterwards, you just feel like you've accomplished so much, and you're like: “I did that.”
Me: Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?
Julie: To really believe in myself because I, at that time, I really didn't think I could work out, or do anything really. If I could tell myself back then “you can do it, you really just have to believe in yourself” — I wish I could be able to tell myself that.
Me: That you're capable, that you're stronger than you think. There are so many things I wish I could have told your old self.
What started as a weight-loss journey has turned into so much more
Through her workouts, Julie has changed her outlook and is now committed to living a healthy lifestyle. She has learned to love her body at any size, and she’s become an inspiration for women around the world in the BBG Community, including me!
